EVA Foam Mat Price per Square Metre and MOQ: How a Factory Quotation Is Built

A 20 mm interlocking EVA foam tile sells for about US$5.80–6.80 per square metre at 1,000 m² volumes in October 2026, and 30 × 30 cm puzzle pieces at US$0.68–1.00 each. Minimums are normally 500 pieces per colour for puzzle tiles and 100–500 pieces for 1 × 1 m tiles. Below is what sets both numbers.
Key facts at a glance
- Resin sets the floor: foam-grade EVA traded near ¥10,700–11,400 per tonne in East China in mid-September 2026; the index stood at ¥11,333/t on 12 October.
- Formula: thickness (m) × density (kg/m³) × resin price per kg.
- Worked floor: 20 mm at 150 kg/m³ is 3 kg of foam per m² — about ¥34, or US$5.06 at ¥6.72/USD, in resin alone.
- MOQ is a setup cost: 500 pcs per colour for 30/60 cm puzzle, 100–500 pcs for 1 × 1 m, 1,000–3,000 for custom colour or print.
- Price breaks run 15–28% between the smallest and largest published tier.
- Unit trap: 30 × 30 cm is 0.09 m² and 11.1 pieces per m²; 60 × 60 cm is 0.36 m² and 2.8 pieces.
What EVA foam mats cost per square metre in 2026
Chinese suppliers publish tier prices openly, and the brackets agree across factories. These were listed on Made-in-China supplier pages between August and October 2026 — the visible market band, not our price list.
| Format | Unit | Published tier price (Oct 2026) | MOQ |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 × 30 cm tile, 10 mm | piece | US$0.95 → 0.83 → 0.68 at 500 / 1,000 / 3,000 pcs | 500 pcs |
| 30–60 cm puzzle tile, 10–12 mm | piece | US$1.00 → 0.90 → 0.75 at 500 / 1,000 / 5,000 pcs | 500 pcs |
| 1 × 1 m tile, 20 mm, 120 kg/m³ | m² | US$6.80 → 6.00 → 5.80 at 200 / 500 / 1,000 m² | 200 m² |
| Self-adhesive protective roll | m² | US$4.50–4.60 flat | 200 m² |
Two things move the price inside a bracket: volume, and specification. A 20 mm tile at US$5.80 and one at US$6.80 rarely share density, film or packing.
Per piece or per square metre?
Retail quotes per piece or set; factories quote per square metre. Convert before comparing.
| Tile size | Area per piece | Pieces per m² | 1,000 pcs covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 × 30 cm | 0.09 m² | 11.1 | 90 m² |
| 60 × 60 cm | 0.36 m² | 2.8 | 360 m² |
| 1 × 1 m | 1.00 m² | 1 | 1,000 m² |
A 30 × 30 cm piece at US$0.68 is about US$7.60 per m² — more than a 1 × 1 m tile, because tab punching and packing labour spread over less area. Our tile size guide has the full coverage maths.
Inside the quote: six cost lines
A quotation is six costs plus a margin. Knowing each weight shows which line a supplier cut when a price looks too low.
| Cost line | What sets it | Share of FOB quote |
|---|---|---|
| EVA resin | Thickness × density | 45–65% |
| Foaming agent, pigment, additives | Formulation and colour | 5–12% |
| Surface film or lamination | Film type and grammage | 5–20% |
| Conversion: moulding, cutting, tabs | Line speed, thickness, geometry | 10–20% |
| Packing, haulage, documents | Bag, carton, port of loading | 5–12% |
| Factory margin | Volume, terms, spec risk | 8–20% |
These shares come from our own cost structure at October 2026 resin prices. On a printed-film mat the film line can pass resin; on a 40 mm commercial tile resin dominates.
Why the resin line moves so much
EVA follows ethylene and vinyl acetate, which follow crude. In 2026 foam-grade EVA averaged about ¥10,492/t in the first half, spiked to roughly ¥13,300/t in late March when Middle East shipping disruption hit ethylene supply, fell to ¥9,200–9,500/t by June, then recovered to today's band — a 45% swing in seven months on the largest cost line.
That is why quotation validity of 7–15 days is normal industry practice. A six-month fixed price on a commodity-linked product either carries a risk premium or lets the spec drift. The public EVA price index is free to check before accepting an increase.
The material cost floor: run the calculation yourself
You do not need a factory cost sheet to test a quote. Foam mass per square metre is thickness × density:
Resin cost per m² = thickness (m) × density (kg/m³) × resin price (¥/kg)
| Tile | Density | Foam per m² | Resin cost per m² | ≈ US$/m² |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 mm | 100 kg/m³ | 1.0 kg | ¥11.3 | 1.69 |
| 20 mm | 150 kg/m³ | 3.0 kg | ¥34.0 | 5.06 |
| 25 mm | 150 kg/m³ | 3.8 kg | ¥42.5 | 6.32 |
| 40 mm | 180 kg/m³ | 7.2 kg | ¥81.6 | 12.14 |
At ¥11,333/t, converted at the CFETS midpoint of ¥6.7220/USD on 16 October 2026. Resin only — no foaming agent, film, labour, bag or margin.
- Weigh a sample. A 1 × 1 m tile at 20 mm and 150 kg/m³ should weigh about 3 kg. At 2.2 kg the foam is nearer 110 kg/m³ and the quote was built on a lighter spec.
- Compare to the floor. A 20 mm quote at US$3.50/m² sits below the resin line, so something changed — density, film, tolerance or recycled content. The thickness and density guide covers each band.
MOQ: what the minimum actually pays for
A minimum covers a setup cost. It is not a negotiation tactic, and it is rarely one number across a catalogue.
| Order type | Typical MOQ | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Catalog colour, 30/60 cm puzzle | 500 pcs per colour | One foaming block, one packing run |
| Catalog colour, 1 × 1 m tile | 100–500 pcs | Woven bag versus printed carton |
| Pantone or custom colour | 1,000–3,000 pcs | Dedicated compound, changeover waste |
| Custom printed film or logo | 1,000–3,000 pcs | Print cylinder or screen setup |
| EVA sheet or roll | 80–200 m² | Slitting and lamination run length |
| New mould, tab or size | Tooling plus 3,000 pcs | Mould cost amortised over first orders |
Mixed SKUs count. 500 pieces each of four models in one 20 ft container meets every minimum, and most factories quote it as a single order. MOQ also falls after the first order, once a colour is already in production. Our wholesale sourcing guide covers the surrounding rhythm.
Volume breaks and the three levers that earn them
Published tiers on the same products show what the market gives away between brackets:
| Published example | Entry | Mid | Top | Drop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 × 30 cm tile | US$0.95 at 500 | US$0.83 at 1,000 | US$0.68 at 3,000 | −28% |
| 30–60 cm puzzle tile | US$1.00 at 500 | US$0.90 at 1,000 | US$0.75 at 5,000 | −25% |
| 1 × 1 m 20 mm tile | US$6.80 at 200 m² | US$6.00 at 500 m² | US$5.80 at 1,000 m² | −15% |
Note the shape: the first break is large, the second small. Most of the money sits between entry and mid tier, so reaching 1,000 pieces matters more than reaching 3,000.
Lever 1: fill the container, not the SKU
EVA ships by volume, so a mixed container is often the cheapest route to the mid tier. A 40 HQ takes about 66 m³ of practical load — roughly 2,200 pieces of 1 × 1 m 25 mm tile. See the container loading guide.
Lever 2: commit to a blanket order
A 12-month blanket order with scheduled releases earns mid-tier pricing from the first shipment, because resin purchasing can be planned against it. This is the strongest lever for a buyer who cannot fill a container yet.
Lever 3: simplify the packing
Packing is 5–12% of the quote and the easiest line to trim: woven bags instead of printed cartons, fewer pieces per poly bag, no pallet, one label instead of a colour insert. It cuts freight volume at the same time.
Why two suppliers quote 40% apart
With the resin line fixed by the market, a 40% gap means the specifications differ. Usual causes, most frequent first:
- Density shortfall. 150 to 110 kg/m³ cuts the largest cost line by 27% and the mat flattens within months.
- Recycled or regrind content. Fine when declared under a GRS scope; a problem when undeclared and the colour turns muddy.
- Film weight. 60-micron OPP against 100-micron changes cost and wear life.
- Packing and Incoterm. EXW, FOB and DDP are three products; DDP carries freight, duty and import VAT — for the US, including the Section 301 surcharge (see the HS code and duty guide).
- Quote timing. A quote built on June resin at ¥9,300/t is not comparable with October resin at ¥11,300/t.
- Hidden additions. Mould or cylinder charges, sample fees, minimum freight, bank charges.
The RFQ that gets comparable quotes
Send the same eight lines to every supplier:
- Size, thickness and density in kg/m³ — not "high density".
- Colour reference, Pantone if it matters.
- Surface: plain, cross, leaf, wood-grain film, suede, printed.
- Quantity by SKU plus expected 12-month total.
- Packing: bag or carton, pieces per unit, label or insert.
- Incoterm and destination port.
- Test reports required and destination market.
- Required delivery date and whether a pre-shipment inspection is planned.
A supplier who answers all eight is quoting your product. One who answers three is quoting an average, and the gap surfaces at inspection.
Frequently asked questions
What is the price per square metre of EVA foam mats?
Published prices in October 2026 run US$5.80–6.80 per m² for a 20 mm, 120 kg/m³ interlocking tile at 1,000 m² volumes, and about US$4.50–4.60 per m² for thin protective roll. Denser tiles cost more: 40 mm carries 7.2 kg of foam per m² against 3.0 kg at 20 mm.
What is the minimum order quantity for EVA foam mats?
Typically 500 pieces per colour on 30 cm and 60 cm puzzle tiles, and 100–500 pieces on 1 × 1 m tiles. Custom Pantone colours and printed film start at 1,000–3,000 pieces because of changeover and print setup. Mixed SKUs in one container count towards the same minimum.
Is EVA foam mat price quoted per piece or per square metre?
Both. Retail listings quote per piece or set; factory quotations quote per square metre, or per piece with the area stated. Convert first: 30 × 30 cm is 0.09 m², 60 × 60 cm is 0.36 m².
Do factories charge for samples?
Small catalog samples are normally free, courier at the buyer's cost and refunded against the first order. Custom colours and printed film usually carry a setup charge, sometimes credited at order. Ask which applies before the sample ships.
Why is a marketplace listing cheaper than my quotation?
Listings show the top-tier price at the entry specification: largest bracket, lowest density, basic packing. Your quotation reflects your density, film, packing, quantity and Incoterm. Compare kg/m³ and film weight before calling the difference a markup.
Send your tile size, thickness, density and target quantity — we reply within 12 hours with a spec sheet, the MOQ for your colour, and an FOB, CIF or DDP quotation with its validity date.
